So recently I had a few friends who questioned my motive for pursuing a new platform for my art on clothing articles.  They had me thinking did I do something wrong?  Am I selling out?  They meant well and I know there are a few schools of thought on this.  Do I keep my art contained and to myself like Claude Monet? Or use all platforms available? So I came to the conclusion that as an artist I need express with anyone who will listen, view and feel what I am conveying in my pieces!  I just need to be selective I gather.

Nina Simone once said "An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times".  She may have meant it in a slightly different way but it works for me here as I think of my place in time. Besides, I don't think there is any other time, and that fact that I am here doing this is just a miraculous!  This all inspires me to keep moving forwar...

So lately I have been reading and hearing from a few artists about artist identity, how it’s all about pushing better art, and how things take time.  It seems that patience is a virtue that I am acquiring the hard way.  I have been running around wondering what I could do to push my art and have it seen.  I was feeling almost lost and sad. Although family and friends have been great supporters, it seems that I was losing myself within thoughts of “Can I do this?” and “Do I have what it takes?”.  When I should have been seeing that I already “am doing this” and “I do have what it takes”. I have already planted my seeds and now I just have to wait patiently so I can reap the harvest later.  Things just take time!  So don't give up or give in just keep doing your art.

I love to hear your thoughts on my blog.  I welcome you to leave a message there :)

This past weekend I was honored to be part of the Georgia Watercolor Society board as Recording Secretary.  I was humbled beyond words.  Even more humbled to be around such talented storytellers of the GWS members and all who participated!  I got to meet some pretty amazing people.  Some that made me feel like I had lots to learn!  Which was great because its good to learn new things at any age or experiences.  But when I started talking and connecting with people I realized that in many ways they were like me and in love with storytelling through art and in this case watercolors.  I have learned over the years from designing fabrics & carpets that many artist are humble people and are willing to lift each other up and strengthen our gifts!  Truly amazing when the support and connection is there.  It is important as a people.  It is even better when you can in return reach out, pull up and give back.

A special Thank You to all the GWS and...

So, a few days ago I read a few articles about artists, and something dawned on me…  After over 20 years of designing fabrics, rugs and carpets for companies, I never saw or considered myself an artist. A designer yes! But never have I thought of myself as an artist. This intrigued me because I always considered artists to be at a different realm of freedom and creativity than that of a carpet, fabric or surface designer who creates images envisioned by others. It was certainly an enlightening moment! It sounds funny as I write this but it was a revelation that I was certainly not prepared for.  It was truly eye opening, inspirational and good for my spirit.

Hence the reason why I write this blog entry today! So, when those bills need to be paid and real world kicks the door in on your creativity, try not leave all the art stuff to the side.  I’d say keep working at your art and know that if you never thought of yourself as an artist think again and reach out and share your...

Welcome to the PLA blog...

Question for my fellow artist.  Have you ever reached point when you feel that your art doesn't seem to matter?  Perhaps feeling that when you’ve reach a level of skepticism of your work that others are watching and seeing it as well?  I know that right now it has been challenging to believe in my designs at work or the message I am sending in my artwork. Are people hearing or listening?  Are they observing or just glancing? Am I doing everything I can to reach out to people and connect them with my story, my perspective?  Well today I was reminded of a speech giving Teresita Fernadez.  She is an amazing visionary sculptor.  Perhaps amazing is too small of a word, because she is brilliant!  But in May of 2013 she had given a powerful keynote address to the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts.  She spoke from a place that only strugglers can ascertain (which to me are all humans).  But I want to share one part that spoke volumes and seemed to...

Welcome to my first ever PLA blog...

I had the opportunity to exhibit my watercolor painting "Where Is My Refuge" in October for the Georgia Watercolor Society at the ART Station in Stone Mountain.  I was super excited and not aware of what to expect. It was my first one and I will never to forget it. It was a wonderful event with talented people.

You may wonder why the fuss?  Well, I was always shy as a kid and often placed others first.  As I explained to a friend recently I am always the supporting actor and never the lead.  I always thought things like this doesn't and shouldn't happen to me, but it seems like chance for the lead has come my way and I am happy to oblige. For a little bit...

If you have a dream go for it and be the lead.  Even if it's for a little bit.  You'll be happy you did.

Welcome to the PLA blog...

I had the opportunity to display several of my watercolor paintings in the series "La Libertad/The Freedom" this month for the MINT's Annual Postcard Pin-Up Show. It was great to particapate in this venue showcasing the art work of many talented artists in Atlanta.
