Watering down your art?

So recently I had a few friends who questioned my motive for pursuing a new platform for my art on clothing articles. They had me thinking did I do something wrong? Am I selling out? They meant well and I know there are a few schools of thought on this. Do I keep my art contained and to myself like Claude Monet? Or use all platforms available? So I came to the conclusion that as an artist I need express with anyone who will listen, view and feel what I am conveying in my pieces! I just need to be selective I gather.

Nina Simone once said "An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times". She may have meant it in a slightly different way but it works for me here as I think of my place in time. Besides, I don't think there is any other time, and that fact that I am here doing this is just a miraculous! This all inspires me to keep moving forward, expanding and growing. I think we all must take chances and not worry about watering down our art or what others think, but reflect and grow onward! If it works great and if it doesn't then move on to the next thing.

I love to hear your thoughts on this blog. I welcome you to leave a message there :)
